Password Protection

Secure your links by requiring a password to access

Password protection adds an extra layer of security to your links. Visitors must enter the correct password before being redirected to the destination URL.

How It Works

  1. You set a password when creating or editing a link
  2. When someone clicks the link, they see a password prompt
  3. After entering the correct password, they're redirected
  4. Incorrect passwords show an error message

Security Note

Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text. Even ShortyLink staff cannot see your passwords.

Setting a Password

  1. Create a new link or edit an existing one
  2. Expand Advanced Settings
  3. Enable Password Protection
  4. Enter your desired password
  5. Save the link

Password Requirements

  • Minimum 4 characters
  • Maximum 100 characters
  • Can include letters, numbers, and special characters
  • Case-sensitive

Visitor Experience

When visitors click a password-protected link, they see a clean, branded password entry page. Features include:

  • Clear password prompt with your link title
  • Error message for incorrect passwords
  • Option to show/hide password input
  • Mobile-friendly design

Common Use Cases

Gated Content

Event Access

Control access to event materials, recordings, or exclusive resources.

Internal Links

Changing or Removing Password

You can modify password protection at any time:
