SSL Certificates
Automatic HTTPS for your custom domains
ShortyLink automatically provisions and manages SSL certificates for all custom domains, ensuring your branded links are always served over secure HTTPS connections.
Automatic SSL
When you verify a custom domain, ShortyLink automatically:
- Requests an SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt
- Validates domain ownership
- Issues and installs the certificate
- Configures HTTPS for your domain
This process typically completes within 1-5 minutes after DNS verification.
SSL Features

Checking Certificate Status
To view your domain's SSL status:
- Go to Dashboard → Domains
- Find your domain in the list
- Check the status indicator:
- 🟢 Active - SSL is working
- 🟡 Pending - Certificate being issued
- 🔴 Error - Issue with SSL (see troubleshooting)
Certificate Renewal
Let's Encrypt certificates are valid for 90 days. ShortyLink automatically renews them 30 days before expiration.
You don't need to do anything - renewal is fully automated. You'll only be notified if there's an issue with renewal.
SSL Troubleshooting
Certificate Not Issuing
If SSL provisioning fails:
- Verify DNS records are correct
- Ensure DNS has fully propagated (can take up to 48 hours)
- Check that no CAA records block Let's Encrypt
- Try removing and re-adding the domain
Mixed Content Warnings
If your destination URLs use HTTP, visitors may see mixed content warnings. Always use HTTPS destination URLs when possible.
Certificate Expired
If a certificate expires (rare with auto-renewal), visit the Domains page and click "Renew Certificate" to manually trigger renewal.
Custom Certificates
Enterprise customers can use their own SSL certificates instead of auto-provisioned ones. Contact support for custom certificate setup.
